Ignition by Inductive Automation is a software platform for building SCADA, HMI, MES and IIoT applications. It connects to PLCs and devices through built-in drivers and OPC UA, stores history in SQL databases, and lets engineers build screens and dashboards that run in a browser or on mobile devices.

Plants use it to replace older SCADA systems, to build plant-wide dashboards, and as a data layer that feeds MES and analytics projects. A large community and a network of integrators support it. Its standard licensing is per server with unlimited tags, clients and screens, which changes the cost math compared with tag-based systems; confirm the modules you need with the vendor. As with any control-network software, plan security, backups and change control from the start.
